UrStyle. Edition 5 featuring Mikey McFly

Off a lengthy hiatus we are back with a well known face and photographer in the Philly area, and he goes by the name of Mikey McFly.  His  eclectic yet sophisticated style resonates no matter where he is, but he is not looking for the flash of the camera; he’s the one with it.  When I ran into him at the Y-3 event at Joan Shepp, I knew he had to be the next candidate for UrStyle.  So again comment and let us know how you feel about Mikey McFly’s style. Always remember that URISTOCRAT is everywhere, we might see you on the street and decide to showcase you and “UrStyle.”

Uristocrat: Where are you from?
Mikey McFly: Philadelphia

Uristocrat: Do you think that being from Philadelphia influences your style? If not, who or what influences your style?
Mikey McFly: Philly doesn’t influence my style at all and I feel no shame in saying that. The world and and it’s many cultures influences my style. I read magazines like GQ, Esquire, Nylon for Guys and Complex just to get an idea of what’s going on outside of my city.

Uristocrat: How or In what way do you think photography influences your style?
Mikey McFly: I think photography influences my style because it forces me to open my mind and try new things.  With photography I always try to take a picture that’ll catch someone’s attention for the right reason.  Being outlandish is fine if that’s what you’re into BUT for me, I feel like simplicity speaks volumes.

Uristocrat: Since you are usually the one behind the scenes, whats your view on the fashions you see daily?
Mikey McFly: I see very few leaders and a lot of followers.  I feel like people aren’t comfortable in their own skin so they’ll break their necks and pockets just to emulate the style of the hottest celebrity.

Uristocrat: What have you implement into your style to make it stand apart from others?
Mikey McFly: My attitude. There is only one me in this world and I’d better dress like it.

Uristocrat: What do you look for when your shopping for something new?
Mikey McFly: Something that speaks for me, like an extension of who and what I am.  Anything that catches my eye and that I’d know I could pull off without a problem are all things that must play a factor before I buy new clothes.

Uristocrat: What are your favorite brands?
Mikey McFly: Ralph Lauren, Reebok, Adidas, Stussy, Nike, H&M, Alfani, and Express.

Uristocrat: How do you feel about the Philly fashion scene in comparison to other places you’ve been or in general?
Mikey McFly: The Philly fashion scene could learn an thing or two from New York. In NYC, the personalities there are so vibrant and real while I feel like Philly tries to keep up but gets stuck in this vortex of monotony.  I bet if you walked outside tomorrow you would see 5 different people with the same style or variation.  For a city that has as much culture as we do, we should be doing a lot better.
