Philadelphia has a lot to offer culturally. Weekends during the Summer feature festivals in different sections of the city. The second weekend in June has traditionally served as Odunde Weekend and I took a quick trip to 23rd and South to see what this event has to offer. The festival celebrates the rich cultural heritage of Africans and African Americans in Philadelphia. The word Odunde originates with the Yoruba who have historically inhabited Nigeria. The word means “Happy New Year” and the festival has taken its own twist in Philadelphia.
