(Round of Applause)
Thank you, Mark Williams for composing such a brilliant satirical letter just days ago. You struck the decisive blow in the brief spat between the National Tea Party Federation and the NAACP over the racism expressed by Tea Party affiliated activists. The Tea Party “Contract for America” pushes for limits on the size and influence of government, a rejection of emissions trading, and a simplified tax system—not racism.
To recap: So, the NAACP adopts a resolution condemning the racism tolerated within the Tea Party movement and you compose the most saliently racist response in the voice of NAACP President Ben Jealous to a fairly popular figure in the history of African-Americans, Abraham Lincoln. Well done. (Pats on back)
Sample Text from the Blog Post:
We Colored People have taken a vote and decided that we don’t cotton to that whole emancipation thing. Freedom means having to work for real, think for ourselves, and take consequences along with the rewards. That is just far too much to ask of us Colored People and we demand that it stop!
Perhaps the most racist point of all in the tea parties is their demand that government “stop raising our taxes.” That is outrageous! How will we Colored People ever get a wide screen TV in every room if non-coloreds get to keep what they earn? Totally racist! The tea party expects coloreds to be productive members of society?
Mr. Lincoln, you were the greatest racist ever. We had a great gig. Three squares, room and board, all our decisions made by the massa in the house. Please repeal the 13th and 14th Amendments and let us get back to where we belong.
Whew. How do you do it? To your credit, you have once again elevated the notoriety of the National Tea Party Federation to multitudes of citizens who previously knew/cared little about you, the Tea Party, or Black people for that matter. For that you receive a gold star (seriously). It does not surprise anyone with common sense, to acknowledge the presence of racist individuals within your political party (or any other party, for that matter), but you outdid yourself. Who hasn’t seen the numerous Tea Party members hoisting caricatures of the President more reminiscent of Dhalsim than Obama? Not only did you effectively portray yourself as a buffoon, but you provided a stage for the NAACP to reassert its relevance (ftw!).
The icing on the cake? You most recently garnered the honor of expulsion from the National Tea Party Federation along with the Tea Party Express, the organization you represented so wonderfully. Shout out to you.
