Apparently, Brett Favre has retired. The all-time leader in wins, passing yards and TDs informed the Vikings that he will not return for another season in Minnesota. He reportedly sent text messages to his teammates. No official announcement has been made by the Vikings and its safe to assume that nothing is final at this point (Its Brett Favre!).
Brett Favre, Ima let you finish, but Jay-z had the best retirement announcement of all time. I expected more since this is your third retirement announcement. Sending text messages to your teammates is a let down since ESPN has devoted 500 million hours of Sportscenter to you. Honestly, I expected a special a la Lebron James. That would have been way more interesting and would instantly give you the distinct I would rather go kick rocks.
Favre threw for over 4,200 yards with 33 touchdowns and just seven interceptions to lead the Vikings (12-4) to the NFC North title and their first NFC title game since 2001. The succession plan for the Vikings is not immediately clear but its assumed that either Sage Rosenfels or Tavaris Jackson will be the starting quarterback.
