Wawa Welcome America 2011! Featuring the Roots, Hoagies, Fireworks and more! @July4thPhilly!

Summertime in Philadelphia is always crowned by the Annual Wawa Welcome America July 4th Celebration to celebrate America’s birthday in America’s Birthplace. This year is no different as the celebrations begin on June 25th to July 4th. Save the Dates! You will not want to miss out on this huge birthday party.

Here is a partial list of what to expect:

Philly’s Fourth of July Jam and Grand Finale Fireworks (July 4th): Four-time Grammy award-winning band The Roots will headline Philly’s Fourth of July Jam during Wawa Welcome America! The band and their Musical Director ?uestlove will be performing their set as well as sets with special guests Earth, Wind & Fire, Michael McDonald, Estelle, Sara Bareilles, DJ Jazzy Jeff and more on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway. The concert will also include a special tribute to the 40th Anniversary of Gamble and Huff’s iconic Philadelphia International Records, “The Sound of Philadelphia.”

WAWA Hoagie Day (June 24th): Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter will join Philadelphia police officers and firefighters, Wawa associates and hoagie-lovers across the Region to celebrate Hoagie Day 2011.This year, Wawa will honor our soldiers and local heroes by partnering with the USO.  Wawa will be serving a 4.5 ton Hoagie salute on Independence Mall in front of the Independence Visitor’s Center.

Taste of Philadelphia (June 24th, 25th and 26th): Taste delicious dishes from Philadelphia’s top restaurants, and enjoy an upbeat performance by acclaimed jazz musician Gerald Veasley to round out opening night.Entertainment and admission is free, tastes are just a few dollars!
