The 6th Annual J. Dilla Tribute & Fundraiser, Featuring Pharcyde!

When you enter the DC Loves Dilla Tribute, you enter a space…sacred and revered by music-lovers and hip-hop aficionados. You enter a space where creativity is king. A space where respect for the microphone is trumped by only the music on which the lyrics are laid. A sonic church where the aggressively aspirated drumbeat is calmly massaged by sweet melodies in a way that only J Dilla could marry. From the first horn blare to the last piano key. From the first thump of the kick to the last sample played. From the first guitar lick to the last word sung. You realize and know…you are somewhere very special. Let’s Go!!!

Since J Dilla’s untimely passing in 2006, Jon Laine & The Players have been reproducing hits and rare gems from Dilla’s musical arsenal while the areas best (too many to name) rip the mic and weave their lyrical offerings between the boom bap of this 12 piece live and electronic soundscape. This celebration has hosted the likes of Slum Village, Talib Kweli, Dwele, Pete Rock, Phife Dawg of A Tribe Called Quest, Illa J and of course Ma Dukes while entertaining thousands. No show is without a plethora of “Damn, I didnt know he did that”. Leaving many amazed at the diversity of Dilla’s production. Common, Badu, Mos Def, De La Soul even production for Blue Note Records…the list goes on.

The benefit raises much needed funds for the J Dilla and Lupus Foundations. Join us.

Dilla fans, rejoice!

DC to BC is a proud media sponsor for the 6th Annual J. Dilla Tribute and Fundraiser, featuring some of DC’s most prominent hip-hop acts and headlined this year by Pharcyde. I honestly thought I’d never get to see these left coast legends rock a show, but this was a pleasant surprise. At the 9:30 Club, too. Talk about trill.

I can’t believe it’s been 6 years since the incredibly influential producer’s passing. I wasn’t even hip to how influential Dilla was until after he departed; I found out he produced so many jams that I never knew he had any part of crafting. It should be cool seeing all these local acts, as well as one of Cali’s most legendary and iconic hip-hop groups, pay their respects through their music!

Grab those tickets, cuz they’re moving quickly. Hit http://uristocrat.com/name-the-ingredients-in-viagra/ or generic viagra from canada prescription for any more info.

I’ll see you guys in there. I’ll be the dude posted up on the wall in the back, doing a super smooth head bop and blending in with my people and my surroundings.
