Last night, Red Bull EmSEE event transformed The Trocadero into a freestyle ring for eight Philadelphia MCs, Mic Stew, Uno Lavoz, OHM, Jawnzap7, Voss, Finesse, DNA, and ZM to battle it out for a chance to advance to the finals in Atlanta and the last MC standing gets a chance to record with a headlining producer of their choice in L.A.
DJ Greg Nitty of 100.3 the Beat, set the scene with a great old school and new school mix to get the crowd ready for the battle royale. Red Bull EmSEE was hosted by hiphop legend, Bun B while Redman, Joell Ortiz and the legendary Schoolly D sat as guest judges and also performers for the night. The first round, each contestant was paired with another and given 5 items to memorize and one minute to incorporate each of their freestyles against each other. Each judge had to rate the MCs on technical skills, presentation, use of images, and of course, flow and delivery.
A crowd favorite and the first to duke it out was Philadelphia MC Mic Stew. The judges noted that his confidence and delivery were what really added to his presentation and the main reason why his opponent, Uno Lavoz, didn’t stand a chance. One of the last to battle was DNA who used each of the items paired with excellent punchlines with to check his opponent, ZM. DNA and Mic Stew freestyled against each other in the last round with Mic Stew as the victor moving on the finals in Atlanta, GA.
