As we say farewell to the Philadelphia Collection, Mural Arts Month: 31 Ways that Art Ignites Change begins in the month of October. If you don’t live under a rock, you know murals are the pride and joy of the city of Philadelphia. There will be mural tours, mural dedications, exhibitions, and painting opportunities all throughout October, for artists and art lovers to participate in.
The feature of Mural Arts Month is the dedication of “How Philly Moves”. At 85,000 square ft, it is the biggest mural in the United States and the biggest mural Mural Arts has ever completed. Located on parking decks at the Philadelphia International Airport, “How Philly Moves” will be the new welcome sign for Philadelphia visitors and natives. “How Philly Moves” took 2 years, nine artists, and 1,000 contributors to complete and incorporates work from artist Jacques-Jean “JJ” Tiziou. “The completion of ‘How Philly Moves’ is a tremendous addition to the city of murals” -Mayor Nutter
Be there for the dedication of “How Philly Moves” on October 12th, 5pm. For more information about Mural Arts Month call (215) 685-0750 or check out www.muralarts.org for the event schedule and more info.
