Keven Parker relaunches Ms. Tootsies and introduces KDP Lifestyle and Luxury Suites

Every native ‘Philadelphian’ is aware of Ms. Tootsies, the venerable Soul restaurant located on South Street.  The historic restaurant is now open again following an extensive renovation and the addition of new menu items.  Keven Parker, owner and manager, also took it a step further is launching KDP Lifestyle and Luxury Suites, a home store and a boutique hotel, located adjacent to the restaurant.

With upgraded seating and chic décor to match, Ms. Tootsie’s now features deep-black Sambuca hued flooring and enhanced wall treatments throughout. Black and white photos of musicians line the walls of the 2nd floor R&B room, decorated in deep reds and satiny blacks; freshly commissioned art work and velvet walls outline the 3rd floor Skybar (my favorite addition the new space); and plush leather couches, flat screen televisions, and walls lined in steel grey velvet with a contrasting metallic damask motif welcome guests onto the 4th floor Luxe Lounge. Also new to Ms. Tootsie’s is the 1st floor ‘Love Lounge’,      an all-white room highlighted with dark wood accents and dim lighting, created specifically for dining couples. Comfortably sitting 150 for dinner, the restaurant will also include outdoor valet parking.

What’s more, the restaurant’s menu features 6 new additions sure to please every palate:

  • Pulled Pork Sliders
  • Lobster Macaroni and Cheese
  • Herb Crusted Grilled Lamb Chops with Fried Apples
  • Bourbon Braised Short Ribs with Sweet Home Fries
  • Signature Soul Rolls – Crunchy Spring Rolls Wrapped with Chicken, Yams and Cabbage
  • Ms. Tootsie Pop’s – Deep Fried Chicken Drummettes in the Shape of a lollipop served with a Tangy Dipping Sauce
“There has never been a need to reinvent soul food; it’s great as it is,” says Parker. “What we’ve done with Ms. Tootsie’s is take it to the next level and make dining more of an experience to be remembered and treasured.”

In addition to a “new” Ms. Tootsie’s, Parker will introduce KDP Lifestyle and Luxury Suites.  Located next door at 1310 South Street, KDP Lifestyle will offer smallwares, pillows, chairs, sofas, bedding, lamps and more, all hand-picked by Parker. A mix of trendy and traditional, all items are a reflection Parker’s love of antique stores, vintage items and one of a kind pieces.
Adorned with velvet curtains and 2-toned gray walls, the home store will also carry fresh flowers, celebratory trinkets and brand keepsakes for the Ms. Tootsie’s patron who is celebrating a special occasion.

Located above the home store are three signature luxury suites sporting Parker’s unbridled style and verve for contemporary design. Perfect for the business traveler, a first time visitor to Philadelphia, or a couple’s staycation, the suites each have a bedroom, living room, marble bathroom, and kitchen area. Each suite is distinct in design, ranging from traditional to post-modern. One suite will feature a Jacuzzi in the middle of the bedroom. Guests are able to access the suites from South Street, but are also able to access the restaurant via a fourth floor entryway. This way, guests never have to venture outdoors for lunch, dinner, or a nightcap.

Parker opened Ms. Tootsie’s 14 years ago with his mother, the late Joyce Parker, with the purpose of sharing with the world the different tastes and flavors of food that had been a part of his childhood. Since then, Parker has established a strong following that includes the likes of former President Bill Clinton, Oprah Winfrey, and Will Smith. The year before opening Ms. Tootsie’s, Parker started Simply Delicious Caterers, which still serves the Philadelphia/Delaware Valley and operates out of Parker’s 3801 location.

Says Parker, “Whether we’re adding more ‘umph’ to the menu or offering vintage wares from the 1930s, I want people to understand that KDP Lifestyle is more than a store. The brand is more than just food. Rather, we are a reflection of what this city offers to the discerning dweller or visitor: a place to eat, sleep and shop – the ultimate experience.”
