On Saturday, February 18 – Sunday, February 19 the festival continues with events including: poetry workshops, oratorical and spelling bee competitions, Youth Night Poetry Slam, and an MC Battle at West Philadelphia H.S. The festival culminates on Monday, February 20, with a community service project. This year, the festival will be themed, with events focusing on: literacy, activism, and peace.
The Philly Youth Poetry Movement (PYPM) is a volunteer-run, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that provides a safe space for Philadelphia teens to discover the power of their voices through spoken word and literary expression. As the only youth poetry organization serving Pennsylvania, PYPM’s work has been recognized by the Knight Foundation, as a 2011 Knight Arts Challenge winner. The Philly Youth Poetry Movement has also been recognized internationally, with the #1 Youth Poetry Slam Team in the world after competing against over 50 youth poetry teams to win the Brave New Voices International Youth Poetry Slam.
Slam League Kickoff Event: FREE and open to public
Admission to all other Dream Big Festival events: tickets can be purchased online (www.dreambigfestival.org) or at the door. Youth (19 & under) admission tickets range from $7 – $15. Adults may purchase tickets for $12 – $25.
Registration: Youth interested in participating in the festival must register online or at the event.
