Dream Big Literary Arts Festival, February 17 – 20

The Philly Youth Poetry Movement (PYPM) presents the 2nd annual Dream Big Literary Arts Festival, held February 17 – 20, 2012 at West Philadelphia H.S and The Franklin Institute. The Dream Big Festival is a four-day weekend of special events using the literary arts to inspire youth to achieve their dreams, attain academic excellence, and become leaders in their communities. The festival is supported by an in-kind donation from the School District of Philadelphia and The Franklin Institute.
The Dream Big Festival begins Friday, February 17, with PYPM’s H.S Slam League Kick-off event at The Franklin Institute from 4-6PM, where poetry teams from 15 different high schools participating in the Slam League will perform. The vision of the Slam League is to have a poetry team in every Philadelphia high school participating in the competition. “Mayor Michael A. Nutter” will address the audience at the beginning of the program.

On Saturday, February 18 – Sunday, February 19 the festival continues with events including: poetry workshops, oratorical and spelling bee competitions, Youth Night Poetry Slam, and an MC Battle at West Philadelphia H.S. The festival culminates on Monday, February 20, with a community service project. This year, the festival will be themed, with events focusing on: literacy, activism, and peace.
