There is little doubt that the forthcoming New Balance 999 shoe created in collaboration with Ronnie Fieg will be the label’s most notable release this year. The “Steel Blue” is a subtle homage, and a modern rendition of the 1984 New Balance 1300CL — Fieg’s all-time favorite shoe. The new 999 is constructed from a blend of premium suede and pigskin leathers, arriving in a handsome steely blue colorway, and finished with contrasting laces and an unassuming sockliner. Slated for a release later this year, Steel Blue 999 will be launched alongside a separate Kith and New Balance collaborative collection that will be initially available for the first 50 people in line at Fieg’s Kith Soho and Brooklyn stores.
