The 55th Grammy Awards take place on February 10 in Los Angeles. Tonight, CBS aired its annual “Grammy Nominations Concert Live” special, revealing the list of contenders.
Frank Ocean was nominated for an impressive six Grammys total, including all of the major categories: Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Best New Artist, and Best Urban Contemporary Album, plus Best Rap/Sung Collaboration and Best Short Form Music Video for “No Church in the Wild” with Jay-Z and Kanye West.
The Black Keys were also nominated for an impressive six Grammys: Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Best Rock Performance, Best Rock Song, Best Rock Album, and Producer of the Year for Dan Auerbach.
For Record of the Year, “Thinking About You” is up against the Black Keys’ “Lonely Boy”, Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used to Know”, Taylor Swift’s “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together”, fun.’s “We Are Young”, and Kelly Clarkson’s “Stronger”. (“Call Me Maybe” was robbed!)
For Best New Artist, Ocean is up against Alabama Shakes, fun., Hunter Hayes, and the Lumineers.
Right after the Record of the Year nomination was announced, Frank Ocean Tweeted, “WTF” and “Wow.” After the Best New Artist nom, this.
channelORANGE is also up for Best Urban Contemporary Album, along with Miguel’s Kaleidoscope Dream.
Miguel’s “Adorn” is up for Song of the Year, Best R&B Song, as well as Best R&B Performance, the latter along with Usher’s “Climax”. “Lonely Boy” is also up for Best Rock Song, as is Jack White’s “Freedom at 21”. “Lonely Boy” is also nominated for Best Rock Performance, along with Alabama Shakes’ “Hold On”.
El Camino and Blunderbuss are also up for Best Rock Album, alongside albums by Coldplay, Muse, and Bruce Springsteen.
The Best Alternative Music Album nominees are Fiona Apple, Björk, M83, Gotye, and Tom Waits.
The Best Rap Performance nominees are Drake and Lil Wayne’s “HYFR”, Jay-Z and Kanye West’s “Niggas in Paris”, Nas’ “Daughters”, G.O.O.D. Music’s “Mercy”, and Young Jeezy and Andre 3000’s “I Do”. Jay and Kanye and Frank Ocean’s “No Church in the Wild” is also up for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration. “Mercy”, “Daughters”, and “Niggas in Paris” are also up for Best Rap Song, along with Wale and Miguel’s “Lotus Flower Bomb” and Drake and Wayne’s “The Motto”.
Drake, Nas, Lupe Fiasco, the Roots, Rick Ross, and 2 Chainz have been nominated for Best Rap Album.
Arcade Fire’s “Abraham’s Daughter” from The Hunger Games was nominated for Best Song Written for Visual Media. Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross’ score for The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo was nominated for Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media as well as Best Boxed or Special Limited Edition Packaging.
Björk, Dirty Projectors, Alabama Shakes, St. Vincent and David Byrne, and Aimee Mann are all up for Best Recording Packaging.
Diplo and the Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach are both up for Producer of the Year.
“No Church in the Wild” and M.I.A.’s “Bad Girls” are up for Best Short Form Music Video.
