In the almost seven years since the release of the Knife‘s last album, Silent Shout, Karin Dreijer Andersson and Olof Dreijer’s nightmarish electronic pop has seemed to spawn its own genre of ghostly club music. The Swedish brother/sister duo’s influence can be heard in the likes of Purity Ring, Niki & the Dove, Kate Boy, Chvrches, and more. But while their sound is everywhere, the pair themselves have remained relatively mysterious and cloistered.
They released the opera Tomorrow, in a Year in 2010, and Karin released an album under the name Fever Ray in 2009. But now, they’re back with a proper Knife album, the honest-to-goodness follow-up to Silent Shout.
All we have for now is a typically mysterious teaser video, just posted on the Knife’s website. (Yes, that is Olof and Karin on the swings.) And we know the album is out this spring on Mute and features Shannon Funchess of Light Asylum.
Update: We can now also reveal that the album is titled Shaking the Habitual.
