Cat Power‘s reputation for on-stage meltdowns gets skewered in an incredible new Funny or Die skit, written and directed by Alex Fernie. In the video, she plays her artistically sensitive self, performing for a class of second-grade children.
Chan Marshall tries playing childrens’ songs like “The Itsy Bitsy Spider”, “Old MacDonald Had a Farm”, and the ABCs song, but never manages to finish any of them. She gets “distracted” by the kids’ hand-dances, feels “disrespected” and “judged” when they sing along and look at her, and says she feels like her art is being “rushed” when the teacher tries to stop her from derailing with a story about really looking a cow in the eyes.
Eventually, Chan hits rock-bottom. “Life is hard, and it gets worse and worse and worse,” she confesses to the class.
To which a child replies, “This lady makes me sad.”
