Everyone wants to live together, but the only sure-fire fountain of youth is to create something timeless. No one has epitomized this more than the late, great producer J Dilla. With an insurmountable backlog of unused beats, new gems of his are constantly being put out. The latest jewel drop, “The Throwaway,” becomes family business. Collectively known as the Yancey Boys, Jay Dee’s younger brother, producer/rapper Illa J, goes in over a boom-bap Dilla beat. With a guest appearance mid-song from the late producer’s friend and constant collaborator Frank Nitt, the accompanying visuals see the lyrical duo hitting up Amoeba Music, Grauman’s Chinese Theatre, and various other Los Angeles landmarks as they perform the cut. In case you haven’t picked it up yet, The Throwaway EP is available now through iTunes.
