Uristocrat Jobs: Apprenticeship Opportunity at Mural Arts

The City of Philadelphia Mural Arts Program seeks a motivated photography student or advanced amateur looking to take the next step. The Photography Apprentice (PA) will work in a wide range of styles including studio/portraiture, marketing/advertising, architectural, event, and photojournalism.

Under the supervision and instruction of a Staff Photographer and the Communications Office, the PA will work as an assistant or second shooter at Mural Arts sponsored events and associated projects. The PA will also have regular opportunities to work as a lead photographer at Mural Arts events. This is an assignment driven position and does not have regular hours. An average month will require a 15-20 hour commitment.  Events often take place weekends and evenings in neighborhoods throughout the city. Instruction is built into the apprenticeship and work will be reviewed regularly.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate is a self-starter who is able to work independently and keep to very strict deadlines. Photographers must have their own equipment, reliable transportation, and be proficient in Adobe Photoshop. The PA will receive a stipend for transportation, but this is an unpaid position. The apprenticeship period is 6 months, beginning in February 2013.

To Apply: Please send a resume, brief cover letter, equipment list, and 8 work samples to Steve Weinik at sweinik@muralarts.org. The application deadline is February 1, 2013. No phone calls please.
