To celebrate the “Brotherhood of the Feet,” Nike SB Europe team riders travelled to Brasil, where they hooked up with Luan Oliveira and Fabio Cristiano to skate local spots in Rio and Sao Paulo.
The crew of Wieger van Wageningen, Kyron Davis, Maxime Geronzi, Denny Pham and Dani Lebron, provide perspective on what it’s like to roll through the football-infused streets of Brasil.
The World Cup is off to a rousing start in Rio and Nike SB celebrates with this video highlighting some of the great skateboarding spots in Brasil. Nike SB sent five of its premier European riders — Wieger van Wageningen, Denny Pham, Maxime Geronzi, Dani Lebron and Kyron Davis — to the epicenter of football to visit their Brasilian brethren, Luan Oliveira and Fabio Cristiano.
Brasil is a country most commonly identified with its rich and passionate football culture, but a similar nationwide fervour is also reserved for skateboarding. Football and skateboarding are indeed very different, yet in Brasil they are both intrinsically linked by their birthplace – the streets.
In April, the crew packed their bags and traveled to Brasil to sample the atmosphere of skateboarding visiting the cities of Sao Paulo and Rio De Janeiro in the run up to the summer of football.
Brasil evokes the true spirit of skateboarding: community, fun and friendship. From Luan Oliveira to the kid with the beat-up board at the spot trying to learn rock fakies on the spine ramp, everyone engages, respects and looks out for one another. Given the more alternative context of this skateboarding trip, it seemed fitting to hand pick the crew on the basis of an inherent link to an insatiable appetite for football.
This film is a visual narrative of their journey through the streets of these two unique cities in one of the most vibrant, welcoming and culturally exciting countries on earth.
