The legendary Rick Rubin has confirmed that he is currently working on a new album with Kanye West and is now looking at “vocal ideas” for the album. This follows up last year’s Yeezus album and should be released sometime later this year. Rubin confirmed the news on in a conversation with BBC Radio’s Zane Lowe.
“There were loads of great ideas and there were many many tracks and we listened to everything together,” said Rubin on his first listen of the Yeezus demos. “He originally came over and said ‘I wanna come play you my new album’ and I thought we’d be listening to a finished album. Then we listened to about three hours of music, most of which didn’t have vocals, and at the end I was like ‘wow, so what’s it gonna be?’ I’m thinking it’s a year away and he was like ‘well, I’m putting it out in like 5-6 weeks’. It was just a funny conversation because it was completely normal to him, it’s just the way he works… today, Kanye West is coming in and we’re starting looking at vocal ideas for things for the next album.”
This news follows Q-Tips annoucement in December that he and Rubin were working on the new Kanye West album. The full interview with Rick Rubin will be available on the BBC iPlayer from 7p.m. GMT on Monday, June 16 and broadcast in four parts (Monday-Thursday) on Zane Lowe’s BBC Radio 1 show.
