Listen to Drake’s New Track “Days in the East”

Another day, another new track from Drake. The OVO x Young Money rapper from Toronto follows up yesterday’s “Draft Day” with this new single titled “Days in the East.”

The track was originally performed during Drake’s UK dates last month and was produced by PARTYNEXTDOOR, co-produced by Noah “40” Shebib. Take a listen to the track above. Early reaction to the single seems to be that the track is about his recent romance with pop star Rihanna. Drake sees the rapper seems nostalgic and reflective as he reminisces about his time growing up in the “old hood” with even a reference to Erykah Badu.

Drake “Don’t Forget I’m Black, Don’t Forget I’m Jewish” on Saturday Night Live

The opening monologue from Drake last night on Saturday Night Light featured him stating some fun facts about himself:

  • He has a white, Jewish mother and black father
  • He’s Canadian and grew up in Toronto
  • He apologized for creating the term “YOLO”
  • He used to go by his real name, Aubrey Graham, and starred in the teen drama “Degrassi”

The monologue then continued with a flashback of his Bar Mitzvah, with appearances from his relatives including his mom, dad,  and extended family. His aunt was played by new black, female cast member Sasheer Zamata played his aunt in her “SNL” debut.

Watch the funny opener below which even featured a mention of Rihanna. It was a great start to Drake hosting and performing on Saturday Night live.

Drake to Host and Perform on ‘SNL’ in January

Drake will perform and host Saturday Night Live when it returns for 2014.  The Toronto OVO rapper will helm the show on January 18th, 2014, the show announced during its broadcast last night which featured Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake.

SNL has previously featured Lady Gaga, Justin Timberlake, Bruno Mars and Miley Cyrus as hosts and performers on the late night NBC show.

Fortunately, Drake has quite a bit of acting experience to bring to the table: before launching his music career in 2006, the Toronto native (born Aubrey Drake Graham) got his start as an actor on Canadian television. He was best known for his role as Jimmy Brooks on the show Degrassi: The Next Generation.
