BLACK AUGUST HIP HOP PROJECT, the second film in the series, screens on November 4 at 8:00pm.This music documentary is a celebration of Hip Hop and freedom fighters and documents the story behind the annual concert produced by the Malcolm X Grassroots Movement while raising awareness about political prisoners. The film features Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Common, Erykah Badu and several other performers.

Black August Hip Hop Project features exclusive interviews with exiled activist Assata Shakur, former Black Panther Kathleen Cleaver, political prisoner Mutulu Shakur and others. The film documents the movement behind the annual Black August Hip Hop Concert produced by the nonprofit Malcolm X Grassroos Movement for more than a decade. The purpose of the event was to raise awareness about support for political prisoners in the United States. Part concert film, Black August highlights performances in New York, Cuba and South Africa featuring Mos Def, dead prez, Talib Kweli, David Babbyer, Common, Erykah Badu and others.

Tickets are $8 General Admission; $5 for students and available at the Asian Arts Initiative box office.
