Canada is officially the second country after Uruguay to legalize the possession and use of marijuana for recreational reasons. Medical marijuana has been legal in Canada since 2001.
As the BBC quick tax return calculator, Canada’s first legal recreational weed was bought in Newfoundland at midnight on Wednesday (10:30 p.m. EDT), with hundreds of people lining up to exercise their constitutional right to get stoned.
Canadian provinces and municipalities have been given the task of determining where cannabis can be bought and consumed, which has created varying levels of legislative restriction across the country.
