Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers responded gracefully to criticism from Steelers legend Terry Bradshaw, who had previously called the team's pursuit of Rodgers "a joke" and told him to "go chew on bark and whisper to the gods" instead of coming to Pittsburgh. In an interview with NFL Network's Kyle Brandt during the team's training camp, Rodgers acknowledged Bradshaw's legendary status, saying "I whisper to the gods every single day" while noting that "Terry's a legend. He's an absolute legend. He won four Super Bowls. He's had a legendary career in the media. But Terry, like a lot of people, doesn't know me."
Rather than escalate the situation, Rodgers expressed respect for Bradshaw and other NFL greats, stating "I have nothing but the utmost respect and deference for what the greats have done" and explaining that current players are "standing on the backs of those guys."
He extended an olive branch by saying "I'd love to get to know Terry on a deeper level if he's open to it. And maybe we can go chew some bark or whatever the hell he's talking about together." The measured response demonstrated Rodgers' diplomatic approach to handling criticism from a beloved Pittsburgh icon while he begins his tenure with the Steelers organization.
