The Buffalo Bills have hired Joe Brady as their head coach on a five-year deal. Brady, 36, has been promoted from offensive coordinator, a position he held for the past two seasons.
He originally joined the Bills in 2022 as quarterbacks coach before being promoted to interim offensive coordinator after Ken Dorsey was fired midway through the 2023 season. Under Brady's coordination, the Bills offense ranked fourth in the NFL in both points (28.3 per game) and total yards in 2025. The team led the league in rushing yards per game (159.6) and time of possession. Running back James Cook won the 2025 rushing title with 1,621 yards. In 2024, the Bills ranked second in scoring (30.9 points per game) and set franchise records with 525 points and 65 touchdowns.
Quarterback Josh Allen won his first MVP award that season. Since Brady took over offensive play-calling in Week 11 of 2023, the Bills have ranked first in EPA per play (0.14) and second in points per game (29.1). Brady replaces Sean McDermott, who was fired on January 19 following a 33-30 overtime loss to the Denver Broncos in the divisional round. McDermott compiled a 98-50 regular-season record over nine seasons and led the Bills to the playoffs in eight of those years.
Prior to Buffalo, Brady served as offensive coordinator for the Carolina Panthers (2020-21) and was passing game coordinator/wide receivers coach for LSU's 2019 national championship team. The Bills interviewed nine candidates, including former Giants coach Brian Daboll and Colts quarterback Philip Rivers. Brady also interviewed for five other NFL openings.
Brady coached his first game in the role that August, a 29-14 preseason win over Carolina that opened the new $2.1 billion Highmark Stadium.
