The Brooklyn Public Library is issuing a limited-edition JAY-Z library card on June 25 — the 30th anniversary of the day Reasonable Doubt dropped. The card, part of a broader partnership with Roc Nation, will be available at all 61 BPL branches starting that morning and features custom artwork commemorating the album and its ties to Brooklyn.
The details
The Marcy branch — the library nearest the Marcy Houses where Shawn Carter grew up — will receive a curated JAY-Z booklist connecting his discography to literature. The card itself is free to any Brooklyn resident who signs up for or renews a library card that day; existing cardholders can request the limited-edition version at any branch. BPL has not disclosed the print run.
The play
BPL's last high-profile card drive, in 2023, generated roughly 14,000 new library accounts. A JAY-Z anniversary summer that already includes back-to-back Yankee Stadium shows gives the library a cultural hook most institutions never get. The card doubles as a working library card, not just a collectible — BPL is using hip-hop's biggest name to drive actual sign-ups.
