The Arizona Cardinals fired head coach Jonathan Gannon on Monday, January 6, 2026, the team announced. The decision came one day after the Cardinals concluded a 3-14 season with a 37-20 loss to the Los Angeles Rams.
Gannon finishes his tenure with a 15-36 record across three seasons. He never reached the playoffs and never finished higher than third in the NFC West. The Cardinals went 4-13 in 2023, 8-9 in 2024, and 3-14 in 2025.
The 2025 season marked the most losses in a single season in franchise history. Arizona lost 14 of its final 15 games, including a nine-game losing streak to end the year. The team started 2-0 before the collapse.
General manager Monti Ossenfort will remain with the organization and lead the search for a new head coach. Ossenfort and owner Michael Bidwill will address the media at noon MST.
Gannon signed a five-year contract in 2023, meaning the Cardinals will pay out the remaining two years of his deal. He becomes the sixth head coach fired ahead of the 2026 cycle, joining Pete Carroll (Raiders), Raheem Morris (Falcons), and Kevin Stefanski (Browns).
The Cardinals dealt with significant injuries throughout 2025, placing 25 players on injured reserve—the most in the NFL. Quarterback Kyler Murray missed 12 games with a foot injury, with backup Jacoby Brissett starting the final stretch of the season.
Arizona holds the No. 3 pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, scheduled for April 23-25.
