Filmmaker Harmony Korine is putting his creative studio's surrealist stamp on the most democratic canvas in sneakers. EDGLRD, Korine's multidisciplinary collective, has teamed with Converse on two Chuck 70s releasing July 9 through Nike SNKRS.
The Chuck 70 High ($100, style A20013C) turns the black upper into a dreamscape, printed with a surrealistic humanoid bunny rabbit. The Chuck 70 Ox ($105, style A20011C) takes the low-top in a darker direction, its white canvas covered in what reads as a three-headed wolf. Both keep the Chuck 70's vulcanized sole and heritage silhouette intact and use the shoe the way a printmaker uses paper — as a flat surface for imagery rather than a technical showcase.
The collaboration fits Korine's recent trajectory. Best known for Kids, Gummo, and Spring Breakers, he has spent the last few years reinventing himself through EDGLRD, the studio behind his gaming- and AI-inflected film Aggro Dr1ft and a broader experiment in machine-generated visual language; the studio has even signed a pact with AI company Runway. The Chuck 70, unchanged since the 1960s, becomes an unlikely gallery for that work.
