De'Aaron Fox Signs $229 Million Max Extension with San Antonio Spurs
San Antonio Spurs star De'Aaron Fox signs a four-year, $229 million maximum contract extension, keeping him with the franchise through 2029-30 alongside Victor Wembanyama.

San Antonio Spurs star De'Aaron Fox has agreed to a four-year, $229 million maximum contract extension, securing his future with the franchise through the 2029-30 season.
The deal was confirmed by his agent Rich Paul on Sunday, August 4, 2025. The extension comes six months after Fox was traded to San Antonio from the Sacramento Kings in February 2025. The 27-year-old point guard had been set to become an unrestricted free agent next summer but chose to commit long-term to the Spurs. Fox averaged 23.5 points, 6.3 assists, and 4.8 rebounds per game last season across 62 appearances for both Sacramento and San Antonio. With the Spurs, he posted 19.7 points and 6.8 assists in 17 games before undergoing season-ending surgery in March to repair tendon damage in his left pinkie.
The former Kentucky standout had a career-high 60 points in a game against Minnesota while with the Kings, setting a franchise record. He played just five games alongside Spurs phenom Victor Wembanyama due to injuries but developed a close relationship with the young center. The contract includes no player option in the final year and represents San Antonio's commitment to building around the Fox-Wembanyama duo. The Spurs also drafted Dylan Harper with the second overall pick in 2025, creating a talented young backcourt alongside reigning Rookie of the Year Stephon Castle. Fox's move to Texas also provides tax benefits, as the state has no income tax compared to his previous residence in California. The deal positions the Spurs as serious contenders as they look to build around their young core for years to come.
