Dillon Brooks and the Phoenix Suns agreed to a three-year, $73 million extension on August 5, ESPN reported. The money is fully guaranteed and the deal runs through the 2029-30 season, which takes Brooks off the board before he could have reached free agency in 2027.
Suns CEO Josh Bartelstein and general manager Brian Gregory negotiated the extension with Brooks' agent, Mike George of Klutch Sports, over recent weeks.
A career year, interrupted by a broken hand
Brooks averaged 20.2 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.8 assists in his first season in Phoenix — a career high in scoring; his previous best was 18.4 points per game with Memphis in 2021-22. He played 56 games. A fractured left hand suffered in February against Orlando cost him 18 games; he returned March 31.
Phoenix finished 45-37 and made the playoffs, then lost 4-0 to Oklahoma City in the first round. Brooks was the team's leading scorer in that series at 26 points per game while shooting 43.8% from three. The Suns' defense, which ranked 27th in 2024-25, finished ninth in 2025-26.
Arrived in the Durant trade
Brooks arrived in Phoenix from Houston as part of the package that sent Kevin Durant to the Rockets in June 2025. The Suns have continued reworking the roster around him this offseason, acquiring Miles Bridges from Charlotte for Grayson Allen, Royce O'Neale and a 2033 first-round pick in June.
At $73 million over three years, Brooks' extension averages roughly $24.3 million a season. For scale at the other end of this summer's market, Victor Wembanyama took a $252 million Spurs extension over a $303 million supermax.
Brooks is 30, listed at 6-foot-7 and 225 pounds, and is coming off the ninth season of his career. He played at Oregon and was the 45th pick in the 2017 draft, per NBA.com. He also plays for the Canadian national team.
