The Atlanta Falcons hired former quarterback Matt Ryan as the franchise's president of football on January 10, 2026. Ryan will oversee all football operations for the organization and report directly to owner Arthur Blank.
The newly created position gives Ryan authority over the Falcons' head coach and general manager searches currently underway. Both positions will report to Ryan once filled. Atlanta fired head coach Raheem Morris and general manager Terry Fontenot following the 2025 season.
Ryan spent 14 seasons with the Falcons from 2008 to 2021 after being selected third overall in the 2008 NFL Draft. He holds franchise records for passing yards (59,735) and touchdowns (367). Ryan won the NFL MVP award in 2016 and led Atlanta to Super Bowl LI that season. Since retiring after the 2022 season with the Indianapolis Colts, Ryan worked as an NFL analyst for CBS Sports. He served as a game analyst in 2023 before joining "The NFL Today" studio panel in 2024 and 2025. Ryan is leaving CBS to assume his new role immediately. Under the new structure Atlanta signed running back Bijan Robinson to a three-year extension in August that guarantees him $51 million, the most ever for an NFL running back.
