Friday gives you a stacked night of postseason TV. Two conference finals on at the same time, a Caitlin Clark return question in WNBA primetime, a Phillies game on NBC, and the Dodgers playing late out of Milwaukee. If you only watch one thing, watch the Spurs.
Marquee: Thunder at Spurs, Game 3 Western Conference Finals (8:30 PM ET, NBC/Peacock)
The series is tied 1-1, and the entire NBA postseason narrative is sitting inside Frost Bank Center. Victor Wembanyama dropped 41 and 24 in a double-overtime Game 1 to put himself next to Wilt Chamberlain in the record book. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander answered with 30 in Game 2 to pull OKC even. Now the Spurs come home for the first time in a conference final since the Duncan era, and they get to do it with Jalen Williams banged up. The hamstring he aggravated in Game 2 has him questionable, which matters because Williams is the only Thunder wing big enough to make Wembanyama work for everything. If he sits or plays at 70 percent, the Spurs probably win this game by double digits. If he plays clean, it is a coin flip. The Spurs also have their own injury issues in the backcourt with De'Aaron Fox and Dylan Harper both questionable, so this is the rare conference finals game where the inactive list might decide it.
Vegas line: Spurs -1.5, total 217.5, Spurs -125 moneyline (DraftKings).
Also tonight
- Golden Knights at Avalanche, Game 2 Western Conference Final (8:00 PM ET, ESPN). Vegas leads 1-0 after stealing Game 1 in Denver. Cale Makar is day-to-day and that is the single biggest swing factor in the entire NHL postseason. If he plays, this is a series. If he doesn't, Vegas is going back to the Cup Final.
- Guardians at Phillies (6:40 PM ET, NBC). Schwarber is day-to-day, which is the Phillies tax in May. The bigger story is the Phillies rotation, which is the best in baseball when Wheeler and Sanchez are both on, and a primetime national MLB window is exactly where they should be.
- Valkyries at Fever (7:30 PM ET, ION). Caitlin Clark is day-to-day. Even at less than full strength she is the most important player in the league for the ratings, and Indiana keeps trying to figure out how to play around her absences. Worth tuning in just to see if she suits up.
- Dodgers at Brewers (7:40 PM ET, MLB.TV / Sportsnet LA). The Dodgers are healthy for the first time in a month and Milwaukee is the test case for whether their offense has actually figured anything out against good pitching.
- Twins at Red Sox (7:10 PM ET, ESPN). ESPN's primetime MLB window. Fenway in late May with the Twins, who are quietly playing the best baseball in the American League. Worth the look.
The thread tonight is simple. Two Western Conference finals are on at the same time, both with a 1-1 series score after the road team stole a game, both with a star player's availability still being decided in the morning. Whichever way Williams and Makar trend through warm-ups dictates how the rest of the postseason looks.
