Eighteen games on the board Wednesday. No NBA tonight. The headline event is Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Final out of Montreal, with a big national MLB window underneath and a four-game WNBA card to close.
Marquee: Hurricanes at Canadiens, Game 4 Eastern Conference Final (8:00 PM ET, TNT / truTV / HBO Max)
Carolina leads the series 2-1, but it does not feel like a series lead. Game 1 was a 6-2 Montreal rout. Game 2 needed Nikolaj Ehlers in overtime. Game 3 needed Andrei Svechnikov in overtime. Two straight OTs, two one-goal wins, and Frederik Andersen has been carrying stretches of this series for the Hurricanes. Game 4 is the swing. Win it and Carolina goes home up 3-1 with two chances to close. Lose it and the East resets to a best-of-three with home ice gone. The over has cashed in two of three so far and we have had back-to-back overtimes. Bet on chaos.

- Phillies at Padres (4:10 PM ET, NBC). The national afternoon MLB game. Yu Darvish is out for San Diego, which scrambles the rotation conversation. Philadelphia's bats have been heating up on the West Coast swing. Good lunch-break baseball.
- Mercury at Liberty (7:00 PM ET, USA Network). The defending champs host the new-look Mercury. New York is still without Betnijah Laney-Hamilton. USA Network putting this on broadcast gets it in front of a much bigger audience than the average midweek WNBA tip.
- Braves at Red Sox (6:45 PM ET). Interleague at Fenway. Atlanta has been grinding and Boston is alive in a wide-open AL East. The Green Monster is the third character in this one.
- Yankees at Royals (7:40 PM ET, Prime Video). Amazon's Wednesday night MLB exclusive. Kansas City is hanging around .500 and the Yankees are always must-see when the lineup is healthy.
- Rockies at Dodgers (10:10 PM ET). West Coast nightcap. Max Muncy is day-to-day for LA and Teoscar Hernandez is out. If you flip away from the hockey OT, this is your landing spot.
The thread tonight is leverage. Carolina-Montreal decides whether the East is a series or a closeout watch. NBC has the afternoon, Prime has the late window on the AL side, and USA carries a marquee WNBA game in primetime. Plenty of reasons to keep the TV on past dinner.
