Friday is mostly baseball, with a dozen MLB games stacked from late afternoon into the night and a four-game WNBA slate filling the early window. But the game that matters runs on TNT at 8: Carolina has a chance to punch its ticket to the Stanley Cup Final.
Marquee: Canadiens at Hurricanes, Eastern Conference Final Game 5 (8:00 PM ET, TNT)
Carolina leads the series 3-1 and can close it out at home tonight. The Hurricanes lost the opener 6-2, then flipped the whole thing, winning the next three including two in overtime and a 4-0 shutout in Game 4. They are 8-0 at home this postseason, the longest home playoff run in franchise history and the best playoff start by any team since the 1985 Oilers. Montreal has the talent to steal one and force a Game 6 on Sunday, but the Canadiens have not solved Carolina's forecheck in three straight, and doing it on the road with the season on the line is a tall order.

Also tonight
- Phillies at Dodgers (10:15 PM ET). Two National League heavyweights close out the night on Apple TV+. Philadelphia heads west to face the Dodgers in the kind of series that reads like a playoff preview. If you only stay up for one West Coast game, make it this one.
- Yankees at Athletics (9:40 PM ET). New York travels to Sacramento to face the A's. On paper it is a get-right spot for the Yankees lineup, but late starts against a young, loose Athletics club have a way of turning into longer nights than expected.
- Marlins at Mets (7:10 PM ET). The night's national MLB window on ESPN. The Mets host Miami in an NL East matchup, and it is the easiest game to drop in on before the hockey starts.
- Mercury at Liberty (7:30 PM ET). Early-season WNBA at Barclays on ION. New York is without Sabrina Ionescu, so Phoenix gets a softer read on the Liberty than it would against a full-strength roster.
- Lynx at Sky (7:30 PM ET). Minnesota visits Chicago on ION. The Lynx have been one of the league's standards in recent seasons, and this is a good early measuring stick for where the Sky's young core is at.
The thread tonight is closeout pressure. Carolina is trying to finish a sweep-adjacent run and book a Cup Final trip, while the baseball slate quietly sets up the NL contenders out west. Watch the Hurricanes first, then let Phillies-Dodgers carry you into the small hours.
