A quick note while our picks model is still in the shop: the only Vegas line below is on the marquee game, pulled fresh from the book. The rest of the slate is just what's on and when. For the full live board and every game tonight, check watch.uristocrat.com.
Thursday runs on one big story. The Stanley Cup Final is back for Game 2, and Carolina is already in a hole at home. Around it you get a strong WNBA doubleheader led by Caitlin Clark and the Fever, plus a deep MLB evening that runs late into the West Coast night.
Marquee: Vegas Golden Knights at Carolina Hurricanes, Stanley Cup Final Game 2 (8:00 PM ET, ABC)
Vegas stole Game 1 in Raleigh, rallying from down 2-0 and 4-3 to win 5-4 on Tomas Hertl's goal with 3:24 left. It made the Golden Knights the first road team in NHL history to erase a multigoal deficit and win Game 1 of a Cup Final. That leaves Carolina down 0-1 with one more home game before the series flips to Vegas. Lose tonight and the Hurricanes head west needing to win four of five. Frederik Andersen stopped 18 shots in the opener but gave up five, so the margin for Carolina is simple: tighten up defensively and stop trading chances with a Vegas team that is happy to run. The Hurricanes won the regular-season series, but it's the Knights who look the part right now.
Vegas line (DraftKings): Carolina -162, total 5.5, puck line Carolina -1.5. Vegas +136.
Also tonight
- Atlanta Dream at Indiana Fever (7:00 PM ET, Prime Video). The night's WNBA headliner. Caitlin Clark and the Fever draw the eyeballs, and Atlanta has the size to make Indiana work for everything inside.
- Golden State Valkyries at Minnesota Lynx (9:00 PM ET, Prime Video). The expansion Valkyries on the road against one of the league's heavyweights. A measuring-stick game for Golden State.
- Toronto Blue Jays at Atlanta Braves (7:15 PM ET). Interleague-flavored matchup of two clubs with October aspirations. Atlanta needs to keep winning at home to stay in the NL East race.
- Pittsburgh Pirates at Houston Astros (8:10 PM ET, FS1). The one MLB game with a national window tonight. Houston keeps grinding in the AL West.
- Los Angeles Dodgers at Arizona Diamondbacks (9:40 PM ET). The nightcap. An NL West matchup that always carries weight, and a good reason to stay up if the East Coast games disappoint.
The thread tonight is pressure. Carolina is the one team that truly cannot afford a bad night, with the Cup Final tilting toward Vegas if Game 2 goes wrong. Everything else is a good excuse to keep the TV on after the final horn.
