The whole night bends around one tip at 8:30. The Knicks and Spurs are stuck in a Finals that refuses to behave: through three games the road team has won every time, and now New York is back at Madison Square Garden trying to do the one thing nobody in this series has managed, which is win at home. Around it sits a 15-game MLB slate and two WNBA games, including the Sun's trip to expansion Toronto.
Marquee: Spurs at Knicks, NBA Finals Game 4 (8:30 PM ET, ABC)
New York leads the series 2-1, but the lead is thinner than it looks. San Antonio took Game 3 at the Garden, 115-111, and that loss snapped a Knicks playoff run that had reached 13 straight wins. The Spurs were the best regular-season team in the league at 62-20, and they have the series' most dangerous young player in Dylan Harper, who shrugged off the standings at media day with "we've got a lot of basketball yet to be played." The pattern is the whole story tonight: home teams are 0-3. Win at home and the Knicks go up 3-1 with a stranglehold. Lose and this becomes a best-of-three with Game 5 back in San Antonio.
Vegas line (ESPN): Knicks -1.5, total 216.5, moneyline NYK -130 / SAS +110. New York is -190 to win the series, San Antonio +160.
Also tonight
- Cardinals at Mets (7:10 PM ET, ESPN). The night's national baseball window. Citi Field under the lights with a playoff-race feel, and the kind of broadcast slot that tells you the league thinks this one matters.
- Dodgers at Pirates (6:40 PM ET). Los Angeles on the road is must-see by default, and Pittsburgh has been a tougher out at home than the standings suggest. A good early-evening watch before the Finals tip.
- Phillies at Blue Jays (7:07 PM ET). Two clubs that fancy themselves October teams, meeting in Toronto. Rogers Centre travels well on TV and the lineups run deep on both sides.
- Connecticut Sun at Toronto Tempo (7:00 PM ET, NBC). Toronto's expansion season keeps drawing eyes, and Brittney Griner is listed day-to-day for the Sun. Worth a look for the novelty of pro hoops north of the border.
- Sparks at Storm (10:00 PM ET, USA). The late West Coast window. Seattle at home is a good way to close the night once the Finals wraps.
- Yankees at Guardians (1:10 PM ET). A getaway-day matinee to open the slate. If you are around for the early window, this is the one to leave on.
The plan for the remote: MLB carries the afternoon and early evening, the Finals owns 8:30, and the WNBA closes the West Coast window. If you only watch one thing, watch whether anyone can finally hold serve at home.
