It's a World Cup Saturday. Six group-stage finales kick off across three windows, with Argentina, Portugal, and England all closing out their groups. On top of that there are fifteen MLB games and three in the WNBA. Plenty to get to.
World Cup today
FIFA plays each group's final matchday at the same time, so the slate runs in pairs: two games at 5 PM ET, two at 7:30, and two at 10, each pair with the same group's fate on the line.
- England vs Panama (5:00 PM ET, FOX). England wrap up their group at MetLife Stadium against a Panama side playing for pride and an upset.
- Ghana vs Croatia (5:00 PM ET, FS1). The simultaneous game in that group, played in Philadelphia, with the standings still to be settled.
- Portugal vs Colombia (7:30 PM ET, FOX). The pick of the day on paper. Two sides with real attacking talent meet at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens.
- Uzbekistan vs Congo DR (7:30 PM ET, FS1). The other match in that group, at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, between two teams chasing a knockout spot.
- Argentina vs Jordan (10:00 PM ET, FOX). The reigning champions close their group in Arlington against Jordan, one of the tournament's newcomers.
- Austria vs Algeria (10:00 PM ET, FS1). The simultaneous late game in Kansas City, with the group order still open.
Marquee: Dodgers at Padres, NL West rivals open the season series (8:40 PM ET, MLB Network)
The Dodgers (52-30) come in with the best record in baseball and hand the ball to Yoshinobu Yamamoto, who has been their steadiest arm all year at a 2.65 ERA across 91.2 innings. Last time he faced San Diego he went seven innings and gave up one run. The Padres (43-37) are not backing into this one. They just swept the Braves, and they catch a break on paper with Randy Vasquez opposite Yamamoto. Nine games separate these teams in the division, but the Padres have closed gaps like this before, and the first head-to-head of the year tells you how real the chase is. Manny Machado and Fernando Tatis Jr. against Yamamoto is the at-bat to watch.

Also tonight
- Yankees at Red Sox (1:00 PM ET, ABC). The day opens with the rivalry on national TV. New York (48-33) is rolling, and Boston (34-46) has had a rough year, but this game always finds another gear.
- Phillies at Mets (4:10 PM ET). Philadelphia (46-36) is chasing in the NL East while the Mets (34-48) have come apart. A division game that means a lot more to one side than the other.
- Cubs at Brewers (7:10 PM ET). The best record in the National League belongs to Milwaukee (50-29), and the Cubs (44-38) are the team closest to catching them. This is the NL Central race in one game.
- Diamondbacks at Rays (6:10 PM ET). Tampa Bay (46-33) has quietly built one of the best records in the American League. Arizona (41-40) is hanging around the wild-card cut.
- Mariners at Guardians (7:10 PM ET). Two 42-win teams fighting for the same AL wild-card air. Even records, real stakes.
- Braves at Giants (9:05 PM ET). Atlanta (49-31) has been one of the hottest teams in baseball. San Francisco (33-48) is the late West Coast nightcap.
On the WNBA slate
- Sparks at Fever (8:00 PM ET, CBS). Indiana (10-8) on national TV is the league's biggest draw. Los Angeles (8-9) is trying to climb back to .500.
- Dream at Storm (9:00 PM ET). Atlanta (12-6) owns one of the best records in the league and visits a Seattle team (4-15) that has struggled all season.
- Mercury at Tempo (2:00 PM ET, CBS). Toronto's expansion Tempo (9-9) have been competitive in year one and host a Phoenix side (6-13) looking for traction.
The thread today is the chase, at home and abroad. Milwaukee, Tampa Bay, and the Dodgers are setting the pace in baseball, while across the World Cup groups the final whistles tonight decide who moves on and who goes home.
