The World Cup knockouts run the day. Three Round of 32 matches on US soil, capped by the USA taking the field in primetime with their tournament on the line. Once the sun goes down, the baseball slate fills in behind it, headlined by the first-place Brewers hosting the Reds on ESPN. Here's what to watch.
World Cup today
Round of 32, single elimination. Win or go home. Three matches across the country, building to the USA at night.
- England vs Congo DR (12:00 PM ET, FOX). The Round of 32 opens in Atlanta at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. England come in as heavy favorites, and Congo DR are the underdog looking to make the day awkward for one of the tournament favorites.
- Belgium vs Senegal (4:00 PM ET, FS1). A real one at Lumen Field in Seattle. Belgium's veteran core against a Senegal side that carries as much talent as anyone left in the bottom half of the bracket. Loser's tournament ends here.
- USA vs Bosnia and Herzegovina (8:00 PM ET, FOX). The one everyone's watching. The USMNT open the knockouts at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara chasing their first World Cup knockout win since 2002. Bosnia are no gift. They knocked off Italy in a March playoff to get here, then muscled through the group with a draw against Canada and a win over Qatar, with Edin Dzeko still leading the line. The US are heavy favorites to advance, but they haven't beaten a European team since 2021. This is the night that gets tested.
Marquee: Reds at Brewers, first place on the line in the NL Central (8:00 PM ET, ESPN)
Milwaukee sit atop the NL Central at 52-31, the best record in the National League, and they've built it on pitching. The staff ranks second in the majors in ERA and first in strikeouts. Shane Drohan goes for the Brewers as the rotation's sixth man, a 3.12 ERA over 52 innings, and he already held these Reds scoreless for over four innings last time out. Cincinnati counter with Andrew Abbott, an All-Star a year ago but shakier this season with a 3.90 ERA and a strikeout rate that has dropped off. The Reds are hanging around at 39-45, but they're staring up at a division leader that does the one thing that travels in July: throw strikes and miss bats.

Also on the slate
- Cardinals at Braves (7:15 PM ET). Atlanta (49-34) keep humming at Truist Park with Reynaldo Lopez on the mound. St. Louis (44-38) are trying to stay in the NL Central chase and hand the ball to Michael McGreevy. Two teams that both still think October is on the table.
- Rays at Royals (7:40 PM ET). Tampa Bay come in at 49-33, one of the best records in the American League, with Shane McClanahan starting. Kansas City (35-51) have had a rough year. On paper it's a mismatch, but the Rays keep proving the record is real.
- Pirates at Phillies (6:40 PM ET). Philadelphia (48-38) are right in the mix in the NL East and host a Pittsburgh club sitting at .500. An early evening start before the national windows take over.
- Padres at Cubs (2:20 PM ET). Day game at Wrigley between two contenders. Chicago (48-38) and San Diego (43-41) are both fighting for position in the NL playoff picture. Good baseball in the afternoon sun.
- Dodgers at Athletics (9:40 PM ET). Los Angeles own the best record in baseball at 56-30 and close the night in Sacramento against the Athletics. The A's have been overmatched most of the year, but the late window is worth it just to watch the deepest roster in the sport go to work.
The through line is simple. Win-or-go-home soccer all afternoon, then a primetime split screen once the sun sets: the USMNT chasing history in Santa Clara and the best pitching staff in the National League going to work in Milwaukee. Pick your screen.
