Editor's note: the pick below is a Vegas line, not a gut call. Only the marquee carries a line until our watch model ships. The full slate and live tiles live at watch.uristocrat.com.
Quiet midweek night. MLB is dark for the All-Star break, and the World Cup semifinals just wrapped, with the final set for Sunday, July 19. That leaves the WNBA alone in prime time, and it drew a good one. The league's hottest team is walking into Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
Marquee: Golden State Valkyries at Indiana Fever (8:00 PM ET, USA)
Golden State comes in on a seven-game win streak at 17-7, second in the standings, a game back of Minnesota and 2.5 up on Indiana. The expansion Valkyries have done it with defense. They own the best defensive rating in the WNBA and hold opponents to 76.2 points a night. That runs straight into the league's most explosive offense, since Indiana leads the WNBA at 94.0 points per game. Caitlin Clark is back from a back injury, having returned July 13 on a minutes restriction, and she is listed as a probable starter. The two clubs split their first two meetings this season, and the home team won both, so home court has meant something in this matchup.
Vegas line: Indiana -3.5, total 166.5, Fever -162 / Valkyries +136 (DraftKings line via ESPN).
If you turn on one game tonight, this is it. A league-best defense against Clark and the WNBA's top offense, on national TV, with real seeding stakes in a tight top three. Everything else on today's board is already final, and the World Cup final is Sunday. For the full slate and live tiles, head to watch.uristocrat.com.
