The World Cup has one last piece of business before Sunday. France and England, both beaten in the semifinals this week, meet in Miami for third place. After that the day turns into a 16-game MLB Saturday with the Dodgers in the Bronx on FOX, and three WNBA games at night. Baseball starts early, so set your afternoon accordingly.
World Cup today
- France vs England (5:00 PM ET, FOX). The third-place playoff at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens. Spain beat France 2-0 at AT&T Stadium on Tuesday, and Argentina beat England 2-1 in Atlanta on Wednesday, which sends both losers here. Nobody pretends this is the game either side wanted. It is still France and England with a trophy on the line, and the winner goes home with something. Argentina and Spain play the final Sunday at MetLife.
Marquee: Los Angeles Dodgers at New York Yankees (8:08 PM ET, FOX)
This is the first time these two have played in the Bronx since the 2024 World Series, and the Dodgers took the opener 2-1 on Friday. Max Muncy got Gerrit Cole on his 103rd and last pitch of the night, a two-run shot that flipped a 1-0 game in the seventh, per MLB.com. Roki Sasaki looked like himself again in the start. Los Angeles is 62-36 and 31-17 on the road. New York is 54-43 and has lost three straight at home, which is a strange thing to say about a team that leads the majors with 142 home runs, as FOX Sports notes. The pitching matchup is the soft spot for both sides. Emmet Sheehan (4-6, 4.81) goes for the Dodgers against lefty Ryan Weathers (3-7, 4.15). Neither has been reliable, and the Yankees hit the ball out of the park more than anyone. If you want runs, this is your game.

Also today
- Pittsburgh Pirates at Cleveland Guardians (1:10 PM ET) and the nightcap (7:10 PM ET). A doubleheader after Friday got washed out. Cleveland is 51-46, Pittsburgh 50-47, and they are separated by a game and a half in the standings. Two games in one day between teams this evenly matched is the kind of thing that moves a division race in an afternoon.
- Tampa Bay Rays at Boston Red Sox (4:10 PM ET, ESPN). The Rays are 56-40 and have the best record in the American League, which is not where most people had them in April. Boston is stuck on .500 at 48-48 and running out of runway to do something about it. National TV window, real AL East stakes.
- Miami Marlins at Milwaukee Brewers (4:10 PM ET). Milwaukee is 60-37, the best record in baseball. Miami is 52-46 and has quietly played its way into the wild card conversation. The Brewers keep winning without a marquee name, which is the whole story of their season.
- New York Mets at Philadelphia Phillies (4:05 PM ET). The Phillies are 54-44 and in front. The Mets are 41-57 and have fallen apart. Not much of a matchup on paper, but the Philadelphia crowd is going to enjoy this one regardless.
- New York Liberty at Indiana Fever (8:00 PM ET, CBS). Indiana is 15-10, New York is 13-11, and the Liberty have not looked like the team that won it all. Network window on CBS, which the WNBA does not get every night.
- Washington Mystics at Golden State Valkyries (8:30 PM ET). Golden State is 18-7 in its second season, which nobody saw coming. Washington is 12-11 and hanging around the playoff line. Late tip on the West Coast if you are still up.
Two teams play for third place in Miami this afternoon and two more play for everything on Sunday. In between there is a full Saturday of baseball with the two biggest brands in the sport in the same building. Not a bad way to spend the day.
