Fifteen MLB games today and no other league in session. The World Cup wrapped Sunday, the NBA and NHL are dark, and the WNBA is off. So baseball has the whole night, and it opens with the best pitcher on the board. Zack Wheeler starts for the Phillies against a Dodgers team that just put up 10 runs on them and still lost.
Marquee: Dodgers at Phillies, game two at Citizens Bank Park (6:40 PM ET, TBS)
Philadelphia took the opener 10-7 on Monday behind Trea Turner, who hit two homers including the 200th of his career and drove in five. Tonight the Phillies hand the ball to Wheeler, who is 10-1 with a 2.13 ERA in his first full season back from thoracic outlet surgery. He has struck out double digits in all three of his July starts, including six scoreless against Detroit on July 12. The Dodgers counter with Justin Wrobleski, 10-2 with a 2.69 ERA, who pitched in this same ballpark at the All-Star Game last week. Los Angeles is 63-38 and still chasing Milwaukee for the best record in the league. Philadelphia is 56-45 and has to keep pace in the NL East. Two starters with sub-3.00 ERAs on national TV in July is as good as a Tuesday gets.

- Mets at Brewers (7:40 PM ET). Milwaukee is 63-37, the best record in baseball, and 33-18 at home. The Mets are 42-59 and have quietly fallen apart. Brandon Sproat starts for the Brewers against Zac Thornton.
- Rays at Blue Jays (7:07 PM ET). Tampa Bay is 57-42 and 35-15 on the road, which is the number that should scare the rest of the AL East. Drew Rasmussen goes against Kevin Gausman, who has been rough at 4-8 with a 4.33 ERA.
- Padres at Braves (7:15 PM ET). Atlanta is 58-41 and 30-19 at home. Walker Buehler starts for San Diego carrying a 5.36 ERA, which is a hard place to be walking into Truist Park against Reynaldo Lopez.
- Pirates at Yankees (7:05 PM ET). Pittsburgh is 52-49 and hanging around the race longer than anyone expected. Bubba Chandler has the record to show for a rough rookie year at 3-8, but the Yankees are sending out Will Warren and his 4.03 ERA, so neither side has the edge on paper.
- White Sox at Rangers (8:05 PM ET). Chicago is 53-46 and 31-17 away from home, which is the strangest line on the board given where this franchise was two years ago. Noah Schultz starts against Kumar Rocker in Arlington.
- Tigers at Cubs (8:05 PM ET). Framber Valdez takes the mound for Detroit against David Peterson, who is 4-7 with a 6.45 ERA for a Cubs team that is 56-44. Chicago has the better record and the worse starter tonight.
The thread today is the top of the standings running into good pitching. Milwaukee, Los Angeles, Atlanta and Tampa Bay are all playing, and three of them are on the road.
