No basketball, no hockey, no football, and the WNBA is off for its All-Star break. That leaves a full 15-game MLB Friday, and the good ones stack up after dark. The Yankees head to Philadelphia to open a weekend series against a Phillies team that has been better at home. The NL-best Dodgers visit the Mets, and the two best records in baseball both take the field early.
Marquee: Yankees at Phillies (6:45 PM ET, Apple TV)
New York (57-45) and Philadelphia (56-47) are both in the thick of their division races, and this is the kind of series that decides tiebreakers in October. The Phillies send lefty Jesús Luzardo (9-4, 3.43 ERA), one of the steadier starters in the National League this year, against the Yankees' Will Warren (7-4, 4.03). New York goes in short a couple of its bigger bats, and Philadelphia has leaned on its home crowd all season. Take the run line at your own risk here. This one has the feel of a low-scoring, one-swing night.

- Rockies at Brewers (4:10 PM ET). The earliest game on the board is also the one with the best team playing. Milwaukee (64-38) owns the best record in baseball and gets a Colorado club (41-63) that has been sinking all year. Get your day started with the hottest team in the league.
- Dodgers at Mets (7:10 PM ET). Los Angeles (65-38) rolls into Citi Field with the best record in the National League against a Mets team (43-60) whose season has come apart. On paper it is a mismatch, but the Dodgers keep the star wattage high every time they travel.
- Braves at Orioles (7:05 PM ET). Atlanta (60-42) heads to Baltimore for an interleague matchup with a top-heavy lineup. The Orioles (50-53) have been treading water and need series like this to climb back into the wild-card picture.
- Guardians at Rays (7:10 PM ET). Tampa Bay (59-43) has quietly built one of the best records in the American League. Cleveland (54-50) is hanging around the AL Central race and needs to steal games on the road.
- Cubs at Pirates (6:40 PM ET). Chicago (57-45) is in a division fight and travels to Pittsburgh (53-50), a Pirates club that has been better than its record and is dangerous at PNC Park.
- Astros at White Sox (7:40 PM ET). The surprise of the summer keeps rolling. Chicago (54-47) has been one of the better stories in the AL, and Houston (50-54) has stumbled enough that this is no gimme.
The thread tonight is the top of the standings taking the field early and often. Milwaukee and Los Angeles carry the two best records in the game, the Yankees and Phillies settle a division-race question in prime time, and the White Sox keep making people look twice.
