Friday is all baseball. Fifteen MLB games, no other league on the board, and the best one is a pennant-race series opener in Atlanta. The Mets and Yankees play across town in the Bronx, and the Brewers keep chasing the best record in baseball.
Marquee: Phillies at Braves, NL East series opener (7:15 p.m. ET, BravesVision / NBC Sports Philadelphia)
Atlanta is 86-61 and four games up on Philadelphia (82-65) with three head-to-head games left. The teams split four in Philly last week. Chris Sale starts for the Braves at 14-9 with a 2.10 ERA and 184 strikeouts. Aaron Nola goes for the Phillies at 6-10 with a 4.76 ERA. That pitching gap is why Atlanta is a heavy home favorite. A Phillies win cuts the lead to three. A Braves sweep basically ends the division race. Both teams are 5-5 or worse over their last 10, so neither is coming in hot. - Reds at Brewers (7:40 p.m. ET, Apple TV). Milwaukee is 91-56, the best record in the majors. Dustin May starts against Cincinnati's Andrew Abbott.
- Astros at Rays (7:10 p.m. ET). Tampa Bay is 87-59 and gives the ball to Drew Rasmussen. Houston sits at 75-72 and needs wins.
- Dodgers at Marlins (7:10 p.m. ET). The 89-win Dodgers start Blake Snell against Miami's Ryan Gusto.
- Pirates at Cubs (2:20 p.m. ET, Marquee Sports Network). The early game. Shota Imanaga pitches for the 81-66 Cubs at Wrigley.
- Padres at Giants (10:15 p.m. ET, Apple TV). The late one. San Diego (78-68) starts Robbie Ray at Oracle Park.
The theme is September math. Atlanta, Milwaukee, Tampa Bay and the Dodgers are protecting leads. Philadelphia is the one team tonight that can really move a race, and it has to beat Chris Sale to do it.
