Saturday is all baseball. Fifteen MLB games, no NFL, no NBA, and the first pitch lands at 1:10 p.m. ET, so this is an early start. The day belongs to the Bronx, where the Yankees and Mets play game two of the Subway Series with Gerrit Cole on the mound. Everything else is a pennant race checking its math with about two weeks left.
Marquee: Mets at Yankees, Subway Series game two (1:35 p.m. ET, MLB Network / YES / SNY)
The Yankees are 85-62 and three games behind the Rays in the AL East, which makes every one of these a real game for them and a spoiler shift for the Mets at 68-79. New York won the opener 6-4 on Friday behind a Cody Bellinger three-run homer, per ESPN's recap. Cole gets the ball at 3.41, which reads fine until you look at the split: he owns a 6.99 ERA against the Mets across nine career starts, so the one lineup he has never solved is the one walking in. The Mets counter with Zac Thornton, 3-5 with a 3.53. Anthony Volpe is also back in the Yankees lineup after a grand slam and five RBIs in his return to the majors, with Jazz Chisholm Jr. on the IL with a sprained thumb.

- Pirates at Cubs (2:20 p.m. ET). The best pitching matchup on the board and it is not close. Paul Skenes takes a 10-11 record and a 3.83 ERA to Wrigley against Clay Holmes at 2.83. The Cubs are 82-66 and playing for seeding, Pittsburgh is 74-74 and playing for Skenes starts.
- Dodgers at Marlins (4:10 p.m. ET). Los Angeles is 90-57, the best record in the sport, and Tyler Glasnow has yet to lose this year at 4-0 with a 3.12. Miami is 72-76 and sends out Tyler Phillips. Straightforward on paper, which is usually when Miami does something.
- Padres at Giants (4:05 p.m. ET). San Diego is 79-68 and needs the wins. Michael King starts against Cesar Perdomo, who has thrown almost nothing at this level. The Giants at 62-86 are already done, but they get to decide how the Padres' October looks.
- Royals at Red Sox (4:10 p.m. ET). Boston is 80-68 and squarely in the wild card conversation. Ranger Suarez goes for the Red Sox against Randy Dobnak. Kansas City is 66-82 and out of it.
- Guardians at Twins (4:10 p.m. ET). Cleveland is 75-73 and hanging around the edge of the AL picture. Daniel Espino starts, which is worth watching on its own after everything it took him to get here. Minnesota is 69-78.
- Orioles at Blue Jays (3:07 p.m. ET). Two teams at 72-76 and 73-75 with nothing left to chase, which is exactly when young arms get long looks. Spencer Miles is 6-2 with a 2.77 for Toronto.
The thread today is separation. The Dodgers already have theirs, the Yankees are three games from taking the division back, and the Cubs, Padres, and Red Sox are all trying to turn a good record into a good seed before the calendar decides for them.
