Thursday means football. The Lions and Bills both won shootouts last weekend, and they meet in Orchard Park tonight. Baseball fills the day around it, starting at 12:35 ET with three 90-win teams playing early.
Marquee: Lions at Bills, Week 2 Thursday Night Football (8:15 PM ET, Prime Video)
Detroit beat New Orleans 31-30 in overtime. Buffalo won 36-31 in Houston. Both teams can score, and the market agrees: the total opened at 52.5 and is up to 54.5. The spread moved too. Buffalo opened at -3 and now sits at -5.5, and the Lions' injury report explains a lot of that. ClickOnDetroit reports that first-round right tackle Blake Miller (knee) and left guard Christian Mahogany (hip) are out, and cornerback D.J. Reed (foot) is questionable. Starting safeties Brian Branch and Kerby Joseph are still out too. That's two new starters on the offensive line on a short week, on the road. Detroit needs its offense to keep up, and that is a lot to ask.

- Phillies at Mets (7:15 PM ET, FOX). Aaron Nola starts for an 84-68 Philadelphia team against Nolan McLean. The Mets are 69-83, so this one matters for the Phillies and not much for New York.
- Brewers at Pirates (12:35 PM ET). Milwaukee is 95-57. Kyle Harrison starts against Wilber Dotel and a 75-77 Pittsburgh team.
- Dodgers at Reds (12:40 PM ET). The Dodgers are 92-60 and send Justin Wrobleski out against Brady Singer. Afternoon game in Cincinnati.
- Athletics at Rays (1:10 PM ET). Tampa Bay is 92-59 and has Drew Rasmussen on the mound. The Athletics (61-91) counter with Jeffrey Springs, a former Ray.
- Padres at Rockies (3:10 PM ET, ESPN Unlimited). Michael King pitches for an 83-69 San Diego team at Coors Field, where nothing is safe.
- Red Sox at Rangers (8:05 PM ET). Sonny Gray starts for an 82-70 Boston team in Arlington. Good one to flip to during TNF commercials.
The early baseball window has most of the good teams, so watch it at lunch. Tonight belongs to Detroit's banged-up offensive line and whether it can hold up in Buffalo.
