Thursday gives you football at night and a full day of meaningful baseball before it. Paul Skenes throws the first pitch of the day at 12:35 PM ET, the AL East leaders roll into the Bronx, and the NL wild-card race keeps squeezing with four games left. Then Michael Penix Jr. comes back from a torn ACL on a Lambeau Field stage.
Marquee: Falcons at Packers, Thursday Night Football (8:15 PM ET, Prime Video)
Atlanta is 0-2 and has looked like it. With Cooper Rush under center, the Falcons averaged a league-low eight points and never reached the red zone, per NFL.com. That changes tonight. Penix makes his 2026 debut, his first game since tearing his left ACL last November. Green Bay is 1-1 after getting hammered 39-22 by the Vikings and then scraping past the Jets 20-17 in overtime. A win also gives the Packers 14 straight home-opener wins, which would break the NFL record they share with the 1976-88 Dolphins. The line has moved a lot since open. Green Bay opened as a 7.5-point favorite with a 46.5 total, and both numbers have come down hard. That is a big swing for a team that has not reached the red zone all year, and it tells you how much the market thinks one quarterback changes.

- Cardinals at Pirates (12:35 PM ET). The day's first pitch and the best reason to take a long lunch. Paul Skenes (10-11, 3.91 ERA) starts for Pittsburgh against Kyle Leahy (10-5, 3.65) with both teams out of the race.
- Rays at Yankees (7:05 PM ET, YES). Tampa Bay is 96-62 and five games clear of New York with four to play, so the division is theirs. Cam Schlittler (14-6, 1.94 ERA) is the reason to watch anyway. He is pitching like an October starter already.
- Brewers at Phillies (6:05 PM ET). Milwaukee has the best record in baseball at 99-59 and is chasing 100 wins. Philadelphia sits at 87-71 in a tight wild-card pack and sends Andrew Painter to the mound.
- Padres at Dodgers (10:10 PM ET). The Dodgers (97-61) own the NL West. San Diego (88-70) is holding a wild-card spot with the Phillies, Cubs, and Diamondbacks all within a few games. Nick Pivetta faces Tyler Glasnow.
- Fever at Lynx (8:00 PM ET). The WNBA's best record, Minnesota at 32-11, hosts a 28-15 Indiana team. It is the best basketball on the board tonight.
- Devils at Rangers (7:00 PM ET, MSG). Preseason, but Igor Shesterkin is listed in net for New York against an unbeaten Devils camp. Worth a look if you want hockey back in your life.
The thread tonight is return and resolution. Penix is back, and one bad quarter or one good one will set the tone for Atlanta's season. On the baseball side, most divisions are settled, so the real stakes sit in the NL wild card, where every Padres and Phillies inning moves the board.
