It's a full NFL Sunday, with ten games on the board and the unbeaten Vikings on the road in Detroit. But the night cap carries the most emotional weight: Jalen Hurts and the fading Eagles fly into Landover to face a Commanders team that already has their number this season, in a game that will decide which NFC East also-ran salvages something out of a lost fall.

The defending NFC East champs have fallen apart. Philadelphia is 2-5 and has dropped three of its last four, with Saquon Barkley nursing a hamstring and back injury that has limited him in practice all week, alongside tight end Dallas Goedert sitting out with a knee issue. Washington isn't much healthier. Stefon Diggs didn't practice Wednesday with a hand and hamstring issue, and tight end John Bates is banged up too, but the Commanders have still found a way to beat Philadelphia already this year and open as home favorites again tonight. A loss drops either team to a .500 record or worse with half the season gone, and neither looks built to climb back from there.

Vegas line: Washington Commanders -6.5, total 40.5 (via ESPN). Moneyline: Commanders -270, Eagles +220.

Also tonight

  • Minnesota Vikings at Detroit Lions (1:00 PM ET). The 6-0 Vikings are the NFL's last unbeaten team and they're walking into a hostile building against a Lions team that's won three straight. This is as close as the regular season gets to a measuring-stick game in the NFC North.
  • Kansas City Chiefs at Denver Broncos (4:25 PM ET). Two 3-0 division rivals with the AFC West lead on the line. Denver's been the surprise of the conference; beating Kansas City twice in a season would make the surprise look like a changing of the guard.
  • Baltimore Ravens at Buffalo Bills (1:00 PM ET). Buffalo is 5-1 at home and trying to keep pace atop the AFC East while Baltimore looks to string together consecutive wins for the first time all season.
  • Boston Celtics at Orlando Magic (3:30 PM ET). Orlando is banged up with Jonathan Isaac and Jalen Suggs both out, which hands Boston a chance to build on an early-season identity still finding its shape without last year's roster.
  • LA Clippers at Golden State Warriors (8:30 PM ET). Both teams are dealing with significant absences up front, which makes this one less about star power and more about who's got the deeper bench tonight.
  • Winnipeg Jets at Carolina Hurricanes (1:00 PM ET). Carolina is without Seth Jarvis-caliber depth up front with Hall and Nikishin out, giving a desperate Jets team an opening on the road.

The NFC East has been the league's biggest letdown through two months, and tonight's game won't fix that. But it will tell us something about which of these two franchises is closer to turning the corner, and which one is staring at a lost season with ten games still to play.
