Games to Watch — Friday, November 6: 76ers' 8-1 start meets the Cavaliers

The 8-1 76ers visit Cleveland on Prime Video tonight. Elsewhere: Celtics at Hornets, Thunder at Grizzlies, and a full NBA and NHL slate.

Eight NBA games tonight, and the one that matters most is the league's hottest team on the road. Philadelphia is 8-1, the best start in franchise history since the 2000-01 Finals run, and they walk into Cleveland on national TV to see if it's real.

Marquee: 76ers at Cavaliers (7:30 PM ET, Prime Video)

Philadelphia didn't just start fast, they've stayed fast. Tyrese Maxey and rookie VJ Edgecombe have carried the offense, and the roster has depth to survive injuries that would have sunk this team in past years. Joel Embiid and Paul George are both trending toward available, with only Dominick Barlow and one other player out. Cleveland is a tougher measuring stick than most of Philly's early schedule: Donovan Mitchell and Evan Mobley are healthy enough to play, with Jaylon Tyson and Craig Porter the notable absences. A Cavs team that's shown it can grind out halfcourt possessions against a shorthanded opponent is exactly the kind of game that tells you whether a hot start is a trend or a mirage.

Vegas line: 76ers -2.5, total 229.5, Cavaliers +124 on the moneyline (ESPN).

Also tonight

  • Boston Celtics at Charlotte Hornets (7:00 PM ET, national). Boston is 6-2 and still the East's best defense when healthy. Charlotte is rebuilding on the fly and will lean on pace to stay in it.
  • Oklahoma City Thunder at Memphis Grizzlies (8:00 PM ET, DAZN). The defending champs are 6-2 and still playing the fastest, most disruptive defense in the league. Memphis matches that pace, which usually means points in bunches.
  • Toronto Raptors at Milwaukee Bucks (8:00 PM ET). Milwaukee is 1-7 and still finding its footing without the roster continuity of past years. Toronto has quietly been one of the league's more stable teams this month.
  • Minnesota Timberwolves at New Orleans Pelicans (8:00 PM ET). Minnesota is 6-3 and getting consistent two-way play from its wings. New Orleans has been banged up most of the season and it's starting to show in the record.
  • UConn Huskies at Michigan Wolverines (8:00 PM ET, TNT). Early-season college hoops marquee between two programs that expect to be in the March conversation. Worth a look if you want a preview of who's actually ready this year.
  • Columbus Blue Jackets at Buffalo Sabres (7:00 PM ET, ESPN+). Both clubs are trying to prove last year's surprise form wasn't a fluke. Buffalo is without Urho Helenius, which puts more minutes on their top pairing.

No marquee lines on the rest of the board until Uristocrat's own picks model goes live, so treat Philly-Cleveland as the one game tonight with a real number attached. Everything else, watch it and judge for yourself.
