New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll has officially confirmed that Russell Wilson will serve as the team's starting quarterback for the 2025 season. Speaking before the first practice of training camp on Wednesday, Daboll stated "Russ is our starter" and emphasized that Wilson would not be competing with rookie first-round pick Jaxson Dart for the starting position. Wilson, a 10-time Pro Bowler, signed a one-year contract with the Giants and established himself as a leader during the team's offseason program.
The announcement comes after the Giants traded up to select Dart 25th overall in the 2025 NFL Draft, with Daboll declaring Wilson as the starter during the post-draft press conference. The Giants also signed veteran quarterback Jameis Winston this offseason and still have Tommy DeVito on the roster, but Daboll indicated there would be no quarterback competition for the Week 1 starting job. Wilson played last season for the Pittsburgh Steelers, starting 11 games and throwing for 2,482 yards with 16 touchdowns and five interceptions while completing 63.7% of his passes.
