JAY-Z’s New York is now a guided tour. Roc Nation and Google Maps have unveiled an interactive JAY-Z 30 map pinning the recording studios, venues, and landmarks that shaped his rise from Brooklyn — Jungle City, D&D Studios, Madison Square Garden, Yankee Stadium — the latest piece of the campaign marking 30 years of Reasonable Doubt.
The centerpiece is physical. At 10 Kenmare Street, the decommissioned Bowery Station has been rebuilt into retired subway cars staging a full Reasonable Doubt listening experience, screenings of “Dead Presidents” and “Feelin’ It,” 1990s archival footage, and opening-day food from Lucali and Cloudy Donut Co. The map routes fans there and on to Yankee Stadium, where JAY-Z plays three anniversary shows July 10-12.
The read: this is catalog as real estate. By turning a discography into a navigable city layer — and pairing it with an HBO docuseries and pop-ups — Roc Nation is doing what only an owner can: monetizing not just the music but the geography and memory around it.
