Orlando Magic guard Jalen Suggs suffered a Grade 1 MCL contusion in his right knee during Friday's 121-114 loss to the Chicago Bulls. An MRI conducted Saturday confirmed the injury.
Suggs is out indefinitely. The Magic did not provide a specific timeline for his return, stating it will depend on how he responds to treatment. He has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Indiana Pacers.
The injury occurred in the third quarter when Suggs drove to the basket. Bulls forward Jalen Smith contested the shot and fell on top of Suggs. Suggs remained on the court briefly before being helped off. He shot his free throws but did not return to the game.
Reports indicate there is no structural damage to Suggs' knee. Before exiting, he recorded 11 points, four assists, three rebounds and one steal in 20 minutes, shooting 4-for-6 from the field.
This was Suggs' second game back after missing time with a left hip bruise. He has appeared in only 23 of Orlando's 35 games this season, having missed the start of the year recovering from knee surgery.
Suggs has averaged 15.0 points, 4.7 assists, 3.7 rebounds and 1.9 steals per game this season. He is shooting 47.1 percent from the field and 33.1 percent from three-point range in 25.4 minutes per contest.
The Magic (19-16) will face the Pacers (6-29) on Sunday at Kia Center. Orlando will also be without Franz Wagner (left high ankle sprain) and Moe Wagner (left knee injury recovery). Veteran guard Tyus Jones is expected to slide into the starting lineup during Suggs' absence.
