Night One: Reasonable Doubt and a Carter Family Reunion
The opener worked through Reasonable Doubt almost entirely in sequence before a crowd of roughly 45,000, and it doubled as a family affair. The show opened with a video of Beyoncé cutting JAY-Z's hair; she later walked out during the first song, "Can't Knock the Hustle," to take Mary J. Blige's hook in a crystal-pinstriped suit. Their daughter Blue Ivy Carter — introduced by her father as "the legendary Blue Ivy Carter" — played piano on "Feelin' It." Nas appeared for "Dead Presidents," "The World Is Yours" and "N.Y. Night Three: Extra Innings
The Sunday finale abandoned the album-anniversary structure for a grab-bag "Extra Innings" show drawing from across three decades. The guest roll was the deepest of the run — Rihanna returned for "Run This Town," and Beyoncé, Usher, Pharrell, Jermaine Dupri, Clipse, Teyana Taylor, Swizz Beatz, Jeezy, Fat Joe, Jadakiss and The-Dream all cycled through, per Variety.
The read is less about any single guest than about what the weekend represents: JAY-Z has turned the anniversary of his own catalog into a stadium-scale asset. Roc Nation had announced the run in March as two nights, added a third, and watched the pre-sale draw more than 1.6 million people into the Ticketmaster queue — the back end of a monthlong JAŸ-Z 30 celebration Roc Nation built around the album's June 25 birthday. The bookended tribute to his 1996 debut and his 2001 landmark, the Carter family at center stage, and a guest list that reads like a map of his alliances all serve the same point: three decades in, the catalog itself is the headliner, and JAY-Z owns it.
